The Metropolitan Museumof Manila (MET), previously the Museo ng Banco Sentral ng Pilipinas is found
along Roxas Boulevard within the BSP Complex near Ospital ng Maynila. It contains a collection of paintings,
sculptures, jewelry and pottery.
However, We came to the museum for the Money Matters for Kids exhibit. After all, it’s never too early to introduce
your kids to proper money management.
The Money Matters for
Kids exhibit which runs from July 22 to August 18, 2014, contains exhibits and
displays concept, samples and applications related to money and money
management. Some of the exhibits are highly interactive, so it is highly
recommended that you let your child immerse in the activities so they can
better understand the concepts by trying it out for themselves.
The Money Matters for
Kids exhibit showcases a collection of coins and bills both old and new from
local to foreign. They even show some of the features of our local bills and
how you could spot a genuine from a fake one. Concepts and trivia about money
management can be found all over the place. A replica of a bank is also found
in the exhibit which introduces your child to bank forms and transactions. They
also have a replica of an ATM machine which believe it or not actually works
from inserting your ATM card to Balance Inquiry, Deposit and Withdrawal. The ATM machine offers a short description of
the various transactions as you go by. Kids are given the opportunity to budget
expenses given a particular scenario, kids are expected to purchase several
items within a particular item. Kids are
also show how to compute for the value of items using a calculator. A fun experience for the kids to cherish.

This is for kids aged
5-11 years old. They will be digging for buried treasure inside the museum,
search for 1,000 year old jewels and learn about Philippine pre-history.
Ancient Philippine Script

This is for kids aged
12-18. They will learn about long lost writing systems from all around the
world.
Zen Wall
June-August, White Cube
A meditative activity
accompanied by audial ambiance serving as inspiration to allow your inner self
expression in ink-washing painting.
Art + Video: Traditions
of Ink-wash
July – August, METLAB
Animation meets with the
traditional styles of ink-wash painting that is unique to China.
Cinemet
July – August, METLAB
A screening of films and
videos taken from local and international perspectives exploring diverse range
of genres.
You may also want to
check the Upper Floor: The Philippine Contemporary (to scale the past and the
possible), a collection of paintings, sculptures and digital displays from
various genre’s and generations.
Visit the basement, which
houses the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Pre-colonial Gold and Pottery
collection. However, the Gold and Pottery Exhibits are open only until 4:30
p.m, Monday to Friday, and closed on Saturdays.
